Lighting:I have neglected to mention this but the lighting in our new place is horrible. Other then the kitchen and hallway, we have no overhead fixtures. That just seems so irrational to me. I know it will be well over a year before we pay someone to come in and re-wire the place and I will dread everyday until that happens. I guess we could make ( Read more... )

Ah decorating.... all those home magazines and shows really do mess with our heads.

Look at it this way - floor and table lamps will provide a cozier atmosphere. I read somewhere that they should be put in a triangle in the room to give a nice effect. Perhaps you do not have enough lamps (And this is coming from me who definitely does not have enough lamps!)

I gotta say that the blue on your walls looks crisp and nice in that picture. It must look different in person. Can you take the color of the swatch that you like (the big one) and have it lightened at the paint store? I thought I heard somewhere that you can ask for the shade but at 50% or something.

Put lighting in a triangle.. I'll have to give that a shot. Lord knows I need to do something for the time being.

Thanks for all the info on the color swatch. I hadn't realized you could ask for something at 50%. I'll have to look into that.

I have never tried doing the 50% thing so let me know how it goes if you do :)

Whatever wallpaper we go with it will surly be glamorous. We need such a small amount that I don't mind using a style that is on the higher side. I actually think we might be able to get away with one roll.

What type of grass are you going to plant?
I must research this. I didn't even know there were types to pick from. Ha! I want something that will grow tall, straight and not require much upkeep. Oh, and it need to be able to grow in a potted urn.

Where are you looking for places? I'm not sure if you are interested in the city but I have a friend who said her friend got a HUGE place in Washington Heights. They say it's the new place to buy if you are willing to go to a so-so area that is on the cusp of change.
