As you see, I posted this on our main blog with the good moral vs. good story issue, but here's another thought I had (after reading the SLJ review, but alas not the book):
You probably remember that when the Sesame Street season 1 DVD came out last fall, it came with a warning saying that it wasn't intended for preschool audiences (and therefore with an accompanying storm of discussion about said warning). One of the issues, apparently, was that Oscar the Grouch was just too _grouchy_ for the contemporary palette (contemporary parents, some argued, not so much contemporary children). I'd be curious to see how grouchy the main character of The Bad Mood is, and how that grouchiness is treated.
