I loved the whole shooting competition, it was a beautifully written scene, the narrative so vivid I was easily able to picture it all in my mind's eye - beautiful writing. Esca's pride in Marcus was tangible and I felt as excited as he did (though I wasn't quite getting the same hard-on by it, that he was!). I loved that Stew jumped to Marcus' defence - he went up another notch in my estimation for that. I loved how you left the outcome of the competition unknown at the end of that section, leaving me to quickly scan on to make sure they'd done it! :)
The scene in the pub made me smile. I loved this imagery: Esca smiled as Marcus rolled his eyes, that bashful grin breaking out, Esca's heart wriggling around on its back like a puppy wanting its tummy rubbed. It had me grinning like a loon. I grinned at Stew's manipulation of Mrs Carmichael - that seemed very in character ( ... )
