What is the difference between recording a television show, digitally on your computer and sending it across the internet and recording a television show on a VCR and driving across town and handing it to someone to watch? I know that the former is illegal. Is it that the later is also illegal? What is the difference

Now here's my honestly opinionated answer to your question...
"Okay I need some clarity." The first obvious answer is clarity indeed. The digital recording is most likely higher quality than the vcr recording (as we all know).

My take on this is that digitally recording and passing something across the internet is "circumventing" the copyrighted item in an effort to distribute it to the general public. In contrast, recording something on a vcr is generally meant for private use, therefore the technology used is not meant for public distribution. Perhaps if you read the entire article (which I did not), you will find more precise information.
That's the best I can come up with right now.
