I am glad that you do have those great memories of your grandfather. Those will be what you cherish later on in life and one day will hopefully be able to repeat with your grand kids. I know you feel bad for not seeing him more. Gosh, I know how you feel there, my grandparents live just far enough away that I never see them that much. I am sure that he was proud of you and was glad that he got to see you grow into the great man you are now. I appreciate you as a friend and someone I can trust. I will pray for your strength through this trying time and I hope that you can feel comfortable talking to me someday about things that bother you. We are all human and we all have our struggles and I just want you to know that I will make myself available to you whenever I can. If you need anything let me know. Thanks for sharing as much as you did. You truly are a gentleman and a scholar, no matter what Erik thinks!
I only have one thing to say: Your grandpa wouldn't want you to feel guilty right now. He would want you to celebrate his life; to remember the good times and what kind of man he was. He would want you to tell your kids and your grandkids about how, when you visited him, he had cookies and soda waiting, and to continue those traditions. He would want you to be happy when you think of him, not riddled with regret and guilt that you did not go to see him as often as you could have because you were scared of him dying.
I'm sure that you are like him in more ways than you think. I'm sure you made him proud, and that you still do.
Stu, I am also very sad for you and your family, and I can say what you wrote was heartfelt and beautiful. I echo what was said previously about remembering the good times and all he did for you. You always will hold those times dear to your heart and I am certain that you will carry on a piece of his legacy. As hard as this is for you I sincerely thank you for expressing yourself. You are in my prayers as well. Sincerely, Erik
P.S. gen·tle·man A well-mannered and considerate man with high standards of proper behavior. Stuart is a gentleman of the highest caliber, many of whose attributes are in direct relation to those of his grandfather.
