Beekeeping spotlight

Jul 23, 2009 21:27

Hello Beekeeping community!

LiveJournal will be spotlighting this community during the week of July 27 - August 2.

Just to make sure no funny stuff occurs, I will be moderating all posts from now until things settle down here.

Let me know if any problems come up.

I've just popped in here due to the spotlight and have had a great time exploring all the thoughts on bees. I work part-time on an organic farm with two hives and am slowly getting used to bugs and bees flying all around me.

The spotlight did mention that this community shed light on "why bees don't like brown hair." I couldn't find the answer anywhere here, so I'll ask it - why?

Glad you've enjoyed the community posts.

I didn't write the spotlight blurb, but I must presume that they're talking about the fact that bees have an inherited defensive reaction when they see dark colored animals because their hives have been attacked for millenia by bears and raccoons. This is why the beekeeper always wears white, to avoid the instinctual reaction against dark colored animals.
