So I've been thinking, do you think that pessimism started when we learned subtraction?

That's an interesting point. I don't think so. But I could see the argument. If a kid was always in a world where things were given to them, when they learn that things are taken away, then it can show the half glass full. I guess it's all in the presentation of the subtraction that is taught.

When someone is growing up if then lose something, it can effect a child in a couple ways...

OV: I lost ____, but I still have ____. OR
PV: I lost ____, *sigh* I still don't have _____.

I think that how you are brought up can help people to lean more or less towards pessimistic views.

-But then again, when have I ever made sense?

Its kind of like another question, did our first lesson in discrimination start with learning "one of these thing is not like the other, one of these things does not belong"

That's hilarious! In a sick way. Is it wrong that I found it amusing?

I think we learn pessimism from Jellyfish, which is why they are my mortal enemy. The may appear to be brainless blobs of pain, floating innocently atop the water, but in reality they are spreading the disease of pessimism from one corner of the globe to the next! Wait... the globe is round so it doesn't really have corners... I'll work on that and get back to ya.

To stop the pain when a jellyfish attacks you're supposed to have someone pee on the sting.

Does that mean that to stop pessimism in the world we should start peeing on one another?

What like, the hunter-gatherers said hey I need more shit (addition) and then after they used up their shit (subtraction) they thought I'm just going to need to get more shit after I use up the shit I go and get (pessimism). Which begs the question of why we didn't just figure out how to need less shit so we'd have to go get shit less frequently.

Also they couldn't figure out how to live with the shit they acquired and forgot how they survived before hand. Reseulting in the subtraction of said "shit" devastating.
