Cutting cards!

Oct 26, 2016 12:43

First off, a reminder: quicky_bang Round 2 had been extended! SPN/RPF artists can pick a short story and create art until the end of November HERE!!
So many genres are still up for grabs; I had fun playing with the mpreg trope for my latest artproject:) If you missed it: click to check out my paperart with Jensen and Matt!

Speaking of paper-fiddlings, I have three other creations to share. In between several fandom challenges the past couple of months, I made some papercut cards. I sent these out, so all I have left is the photos I made of the work in progress. Since it is nearly the season of home made cards, I figured these may be inspirational for some.

Card 1: playing with text and colour
Materials: I cut a card from 300 g/m² sparkling Ice Cold (white) paper from the Curious Metallics collection (by Arjo Wiggins) and added sheets of coloured and patterned paper plus a band of one sided gold cardboard.

I created a complete text design with different fonts in Illustrator. I made a mirrored print to put on the backside of the card for cutting. Previously I would trace the text on the card with pencil, this time I cut right through the template; that saves time and is neater than pencil lines;)
Note: not all letters are fit for cutting and some need adjustments to not lose their shape; see the connections of the e and a for example.

The front of the card is cut-out text, I cut slits in the back of the card to hold different coloured sheets of paper. The golden band is glued to the back and can be folded under or over the sheets, to give an additional colour option to emphasize part of the text.
(I edited this photo to hide the name of the recipient that was cut out of the gold;)

Pink sheet with and without gold band.

See how the gold band is folded underneath the blue?

I also added a patterned paper for a very dynamic look. I wrote a note on the back for the recipient:)

Card 2: a portrait of Jared
Materials: For this card I used a store bought Thank You card and I edited a photo of Jared in Photoshop to create a line model portrait.

Again I made a mirrored print to use as a template on the back of the card.

In between carefully cutting lines, I keep double checking what to cut. Especially eyes are trickey with the tiny bits.

I expanded the portrait with pencil lines for the finishing touch.

The final result from the back and front:)

Card 3: Love Yourself First logo
Materials: I picked a card from my archives (I used to work at a printers and collected the blank left overs of birth- and wedding announcement cards:)

The logo had to be slightly adjusted to fit in the square.

I can't stress enough how important it is to keep checking while cutting.

Tadaah! (Click for a closer look:)

Last year I wasn't in the mood for holiday-cheer and I didn't send any Xmas cards, but this year I'm feeling the spirit again, so I plan to make some SPN fandom related New Year's cards (like I did for 2014/2015, but with a different design;). Dundundunnnn.

And now I'm gonna prepare for my trip to London; I'm packing all my Harry Potter books to read in between visiting some of my favorite foodie places:) (I'll mostly be reading and relaxing though, I'LL HAVE A BATH TUB \o/)

J.

P.S. When I get back I'm going to start a new 30 Days Fitness Challenge, I want to do this ABS Work-Out! If anyone wants to join me, Day 1 will be November 1st (which should make it easy to keep track of days:)
