Artpost: ReverseBang 2018-1

Nov 09, 2018 18:18

When I came up with this prompt for spn_reversebang, I intended to go for a new type of visual. Then I realized it once again just shows my favorite theme: Jeff with a extra limbs to snugglehug Jensen with. *grins* But I did try a new arts & crafts thing: I made a paper mosaic. That was a lot more complicated then I thought and took up a ridiculous amount of time. Oh well, my intention for this challenge is always to have fun fiddling creatively, so at least I succeeded in that, haha.

My original artprompt lured in an author I worked with before, on a fic that also involved Jensen/Jeff and a multitude of appendages, so I knew we had similar interests;) May I present the result of our collaboration for this year's SPN_ReverseBang:

Prompt Number: R1005
Artist: beelikej
Title: Wings Of Desire
Author: sasha_dragon
Pairing(s: Jeff/Jensen | Fandom/Genre: RPF, Romance, Supernatural
Rating: PG13 | Word Count: 17200 | Warnings: None
Summary: Jared is the Commander of the Guardian Angels and he is having a tough time; he’s got Jensen - a man so accident prone that three Guardian Angels have quit already, and there’s Jeff - a hapless Guardian Angel who is on his last chance. Jared decides to bring the two of them together, what could possibly go wrong!

This was the original artprompt:

(There is a making of below!)

Dividers
I made two sets of papercut designs for these: free floating blue clouds (transparent for light backgrounds) and a mosaic version. Text was added digitally.

Jensen is the odd one out because we don't see him through his own eyes; his point of view is narrated by Jared.

Making of the artprompt
The basis for this set up was my massive collection of J3 prints. I wanted to challenge myself to only use these and not do any photoshopping for the prompt. The photos show the process.

The back of the guys is all taped together:)
I didn't really plan the mosaic cutting, that was a mistake, ahem.

Originally I included a title, then figured I didn't want to direct the potential author's thought into a specific direction.

A new mosaic
With the author's ideas for J3 I got a chance to work on a new set-up for the storybanner, yay!

From the original prompt only Jared survived intact, although he lost his pants because he gets to hang on a cloud. Jeff's wings got a make over; this is just a quick shift to figure out the new shape). Scroll down to see what happens to Jensen...

But first a new mosaic; thanks to the first try I now sort of have a plan, it's still more work than I anticipated, eeep.

I did start with the wrong type of glue though, so the right top corner dried up wonky before I switched to a pasty glue stick.

So the top is blue to represent the sky, the green mixed in is the gradual change to earth. (Yes, I put some thought into this;)

New wings and faces

I didn't take a lot of photos while dressing up Jensen. I used Ryan Reynold's body (see sources) and put a manbag on him. The color of his shirt is coloured with a blue pencil.
Unfortunately my favorite face of his was a bit too young for the story.

A rough sketch of the wings before cutting them (with scissors!). I later added purple feathers too.

So many faces to choose from. When I added glasses (on a transparent sheet on top;) I found that his pouty face looked a bit too caricature to use, so I ended up with a cheeky grin. (I moved both Jensen's and Jeff's eyes to the side)

Cloud Dividers

Building the banner

Was glad that my author allowed me some extra time, so I could do a photoshoot by daylight. It was still hard to get the right shadows.

Two out of many. Paper shifts, light goes wonky, it's always more timeconsuming than I think. (And no matter how many photos I make I always notice something off, argh.)

Sources & Thanks

For the wings I found several references on Vectorstock.com
Jensen's outfit was originally worn by Ryan Reynolds (MTV Movie Awards 2016 - Photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic for MTV), the manbag came from a Getty Images stockphoto. All edits were made from prints, so no photoshopping but papercutting:)

I browsed Jensen's face on Karen Cooke Photography's Journal (Burcon2012) & SweetOnDean's Blog (VegasCon2013), but eventually picked a photo from ComicCon2010 by Chelsea Lauren/WireImage.
Jeff's promptphoto is a still from Grey's Anatomy, I couldn't find an original source for his beardy pic, which is odd, because it's HUGE (3500 pixels!) and gorgeous and all over the internet without credit. I would like to thank whomever took it, because it's one of the few beardy pics I actually love;)

Fonts: Alyssum Blossom Sans (Names) & Amalyara (Title) - some letters were edited (by me;).

Last but not least some close ups. These dudes make it all worthwhile;)

Thank you, sasha_dragon for picking my J3 prompt and turning it into sweet Jeff/Jensen. *twirls you*.
Everyone go read the story!

J.
