editors

My, my, editors are expensive creatures. Even the less expensive ones are still expensive. I'm not going to be able to afford an editing at this point unless I can get another job. I suppose for the time being, everything is going to be put on hold. Instead of agents and editors, I'm going to have to concentrate on applying for jobs now.

Dunno if I can be much of a help. I <3 proofreading. Editing papers is one of the main reasons I want to teach English, no joke. I know it wouldn't be "professional", but if you want someone to read over your manuscript for grammatical errors or usage oopsies I'd be happy to. Again, just throwing it out there. I completely understand you wanting to be professional about all of it. And I also know there's more to the editing process than simply proofreading. But still, I have nothing else to do, lol :)

Good luck with the job hunt, regardless! I know the market is major suckage right now.

Wow, thanks for the offer. It's not that I particularly want a professional, it's just that I think I need one. It's a 93,000 word manuscript and I simply cannot edit it on my own. I've had all kinds of people critique it and give me content feedback, but what I need right now before publishing it as an ebook is someone who can go through it that can proofread it for those "usage oopsies". If you're seriously offering to do this for me, I will happily send it your way.

I am confident in the following areas: Spelling, noun/verb usage, punctuation, and sentence structure.

Send me an email explaining the date you need it finished by. silverchyld[at]gmail[dot]com I'll write back and tell you if I feel I can do it :) I truly would love to help. I've always wanted to be a writer, but helping someone else achieve her goal? That would be mega awesome too :)

Oh, and then if someone reads your ebook and says, "This is improper English!!!11oen" then you can say, "Shrug, I didn't do it." :P

One of the smaller epublishers were advertising quietly for editors recently - the pay was $5 a manuscript plus free ebook. Be very careful of agents or editors that want you to pay them - agents particularly. An agent should make their money from selling your book not from you directly. Independant editors will want paying, if you are after an edit for self-publishing, but do check references and edited books before committing yourself to one. There are probably nearly as many bad editors out there as there are bad writers.

Thanks. I'm being very careful and very particular. This is my baby after all.
