April’s surgery

So what’s been going on?

Several years ago they found a tumor on April’s adrenal gland. They decided to just monitor it yearly. Last year while doing the routine imaging for the adrenal tumor they found a tumor in her right lung. We went to an oncologist and we decided to monitor it. We had another scan in 6 months. It grew some. They found another tumor on her thyroid. We decided it’s time for biopsies. The thyroid is benign. The lung was inconclusive. The PET scan was positive, the biopsy was inconclusive, and the lung swabs were all over the place. After talking with the pulmonary oncologist, and him speaking to the Tumor Board, everyone agrees that the best course of action is to remove the tumor from her right lung. She went into surgery at 8:23am. At 10:01am the doctor called me to let me know he removed part of the tumor and sent it to pathology. The pathologist couldn’t 100% identify the tumor, but suggested removal since they were already operating, instead of waiting three days and then operating again. I gave the doctor the go ahead. At 11:09am I got the text that they were closing her up and everything was going well. At 11:33am Dr. White came to talk with me. April did great. She was still under and his team was finishing closing her up. He took the lower lobe of her right lung and the lymph nodes surrounding the area. Pathology should be back in 2-3 days to let us know if the tumor or nodes have any cancer cells in them. Right now I’m still waiting for her to get to recovery. I can’t visit her until she gets transferred to the SICU. Once I have more info I will make another post and let everyone know.
