Patty had given the new family a few days to get used to each other, but like you could really keep her away for long? Which was why she was on the front porch, knocking at the door and juggling a bag of presents.

"Daddy's gonna be right back, okay?" Sam whispered to the girls, and made sure they were well covered up against a draft before he hurried to the door.

And peeked out the window first.

And gulped.

And drew a deep breath.

"Ma'am," he said, the smile on his face a little maniacally bright when he opened the door. "How was your Christmas?"

Piper really wanted to visit her new nieces and make sure Phoebe was doing okay, so that's why she was currently knocking at the door.

Sam grinned indulgently and again made sure the girls were warm before he checked out the window and went to let Piper in.

It was a sign of how completely happy he was that he was grinning ear to ear when he opened the door.

"Hey. Guess I don't have to ask how you're doing," Piper said, smiling. She held up a few bags. "I got a few Christmas presents for the girls. Gotta get started early on spoiling them."

Sam laughed, and gestured for her to hurry and come in so he could close the door. "It's never too early for that. You want a drink or anything?"
