44 Blueberry Hill, Tuesday All Day

Dec 30, 2008 11:05

You'd think an active guy like Sam would get restless staying at home for days on end, but taking care of two newborn babies -- even if it was a job split between three people -- was hard work. No, really, lying on the couch while one of the twins slept on him? Look, it had been hard work convincing her that it was naptime, and before that had ( Read more... )

Cole wandered in with the other baby. "Who's Daddy's little girl?" he cooed, then looked over at Sam. "Wait, which one do you have?" he asked. It was near impossibly telling the twins apart, although Phoebe seemed to be able to with ease.

"Shh, you'll wake her up," Sam hissed, and tried to mentally backtrack to this morning. "Persephone . . . I think."

"I think we're going to have to give them temporary tattoos or something," Cole whispered, bouncing Panthea (?) in his arms.

"And have Phoebe kill us?" Sam looked down at Persephone (it was Persephone, right?) and quirked an eyebrow. "I mean, look at that perfect skin, you really want to put a mark on that?"

Mary had heard about the twin girls born to her new neighbors. She figured they might be just a little too busy to cook at the moment, so she brought a casserole and plenty of her famous chocolate chip cookies.

And she got Sam, Persephone (he was fairly sure, anyway) in his arms and a grin splitting his face from ear to ear, opening the door to greet her.

"Hey th -- oooh, food?"

"Yes, I've got a mushroom casserole and chocolate chip cookies. I figured it was bad form to come around empty-handed," she said, grinning in return. "I"m Mary, by the way. I moved in down the street a little while ago."

Sam turned slightly red as his stomach growled. "You are officially now the best neighbor ever," he declared. The wards on the house didn't seem to have a problem with her, so he stepped back to let her in. "I'm Sam, and this gorgeous little girl here is Persephone," he said, and hoped if it was actually Panthea she wasn't going to hold it against him later.

Hellboy knocked at the door.

He wasn't smoking, amazingly.

Sam appreciated that. He was missing the habit.

"Big guy," he said in greeting. Macho kind of greeting, but the dorky grin set it off.

"Heard you got some strangers in the house," Hellboy joked.

Sam laughed and shifted the baby in his arms. "Weren't strangers for long, but yeah."

"Hey, you," Sam said as he opened the door. "Come to start the spoiling? You and like half the town?"

Sam held Persephone up and gently made her wave one hand at Tori. "Look who's here, sweetie! It's your Aunt Tori! Say hi, Peri!"

He looked up at her with the most dorktastically brilliant grin in the history of the universe. "Peri says hi."

It's not that Isabel hadn't wanted to see the babies. But she figured she'd give everyone a chance to settle into a routine before she interrupted it.

That was her story and she was sticking to it. Forgot about her being otherwise occupied with spending time catching up with her no longer ex-boyfriend.

Sam would be more than willing to stick with that story. He was a little too preoccupied himself, these days.

"Hey, sweetie, look!" he exclaimed to Persephone as he opened the door. "It's your Aunt Isabel! Say hi!"

Persephone just gurgled a little in her sleep.

"Guess that's a hello."

"If she'd actually said hello I would have been worried," she laughed. "She's beautiful."

"Isn't she?" Isabel had seen Sam at some of the most potentially embarrassingly goofball moments of his life, but all of them just might be nothing in comparison to the look on his face right now. "They're both so completely fr -- perfect I can't believe it."
