"Nothing?" Sam ventured, turning slightly as he wrapped an arm around his chest. This would be so much easier if he had bags of groceries to hide behind . . .

And his right arm had a huge bruise on it beneath the shirt, but he wasn't mentioning that yet.

"It's just a couple of scratches," Sam said quickly, and he wasn't really lying about that. "Nothing to worry about, babe, I swear."

Although there was the gash on his cheek, too, that he'd forgotten about . . .

Cole hadn't left the bedroom much since he'd come to the house. But he heard Phoebe talking downstairs, not enough to make out the words, but enough to hear the anxiety in her voice. So he ventured downstairs, then froze when he saw Phoebe treating Anders's injuries.
