I was only disappointed from a scientific point of view, mostly because I'd played the butch even with long hair enough times. It seemed like a good idea to avoid people, though, and so I headed down to the beach, a girl and black and white swimwear and a towel. (And sunscreen. If I was going to die, it was not going to be from melanoma. Not in a place with this kind of medical facility.) It was just unfortunate that someone--a girl I didn't know--had beaten me there first.
It's hard to be a stone bitch when there are only four hundred people around and everyone knows where you live. I waved.

For a moment, Adam did consider playing games, pretending to be someone else entirely, but then he remembered promising Angela that he wouldn't, and this wasn't any different.
He raised his hand and waved, pushing his hair back from his face.
