yeah, i just turned in an 8 page paper on the gay marriage debate last night for my poli-sci class. your idea's interesting but it'd involve the re-writing of hundreds of pages of civil law to remove gender-specific marriage and replace it with general unions, though it would be best to try to unroot the conflict by separating legal and religious marriage. the problem usually just comes down to semantics
