Do you know my email address? It's marissa_bertucci@hotmail.com.
I can totally proof them//dissect them//let you know if it's cliche//whatever you need.
The thing about cliche is that if you do it well enough and see it from a different angle than everyone else, it can make it seem that much more impressive. It all depends on what your actual content is and how well you execute it.
My advice is to introduce your essay and start talking about the characters and situations or whatever and only later say that they're from Kite Runner. That way, the admissions officer won't look at it and be like, OH GOD, NOT ANOTHER ONE. They'll see a good essay with good subject matter before they make any preconcieved notions.
It's fine. :] I would find out anyway. I would still be totally okay to proof it, and maybe better because I don't have anything to cloud how I see the essay itself. And you kind of need to assume that the admissions officers have never read it before, because if they need to have read it to understand your essay, Murphy's law might kick in and you'd be in serious trouble.
I dont mean that you need to have read it to understand, I mean you need to read it because I say so and its amazing, and I dont want to give it awayyyy.
Ahh! You should! You are in one of them! well.. kind of. I talk about you, sort of, but I dont mention you. I talk about the time camping when we were talking about the universe!
But.... you should read Kite Runner! Its so good, I dont want to give away the good part.
Do you want me to sent them to you anyway? I really think you should read Kite Runner though, before I give it away.
ok - I have read Kite Runner, and I've discussed it in an AP class, taken a fatty test etc etc. Send it on over to my email sharpfeathers@hotmail.com
My two and a half cents on the cliché factor: No, I don't think it's cliché to write about KR. Although it may not be a fine piece of literature it is a good story that will be around for some time to come. If anything this essay on emptiness seems a little too out there.. although I'd be cool with reading that too. I don't think there will be many, many people writing about KR..
BUT supposedly a buzillion people every year write about the service project to Mexico. I kid you not. So, don't write any of your essays on the vacation to the 3rd world country or you WILL get shafted.
