More water is always a good thing, but I don't think it has to do with feeling wheezy... if your chest felt "tight" while wheezy, I'd ask your doctor about a broncho-dilator as you start on your exercise regimen, and see if she thinks it would be helpful. Your lungs do need some adjustment time, so starting slow like you are is good, but speaking as an asthmatic who is on meds and not wheezy like I used to be, your symptoms sound familiar. Likely, as your lungs and body get more used to the activity, you won't need it anymore. But wheezing is not good, even temporarily. No need to struggle and wheeze through this period of exercise, the easier you can make things on yourself at the gym, the more motivated you'll feel (because you won't be wheezing).

We'll talk more tomorrow, I love ya. *HUGS*

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think it must have been a little touch of asthma. I don't know if I would call it tightness in my chest; more like burning in my throat, and difficulty breathing deeply. But since I don't really know what chest tightness feels like, maybe that's what it is! I have an appoitment with the doctor next week anyway, so I'll bring it up then.

Chest tightness feels like you can't take a deep breath, and when you breathe in, your lungs/chest feel like they can't get big enough to get all the air you need, hence your chest is tight - won't expand enough. It's most often accompanied by wheezing, although sometimes it can just be tight ( ... )

GO YOU! 3 miles in an hour is awesome! I almost called last night to see what you were up to; I worked until almost 8 and I thought about going to the gym but I figured it was too late. Adam and I have class tonight, and I have class tomorrow night, but I'd be thrilled to go with you to the gym Thursday. I've been fitting in some lunch workouts, but I know that doesn't work well with your schedule.

Just remember with NBI 1.0, you made a new habit each week rather than trying to change your life in a day, and that was part of why you succeeded. I know you have new incentive - but don't sweat the small stuff if your calorie intake is good but your carbs are too high for example. Walking on the treadmill 5 days a week is a huge first commitment!!!!

YOU CAN DO IT!

I used the treadmill at my apartment fitness room, but Thursday at the gym sounds good. I'm thinking about checking out Valley Forge, too, because the weather has been so awesome. If we get out of work before it's too dark, maybe we can go there. And thanks for the reminder about changing one thing at a time. I think I will need that reminder frequently so I don't get too frustrated!

good work! make sure breakfast is part of your day, though or else you will feel deprived. even something as simple as a banana or an english muffin.
does your arby's have those nice deli sandwiches? i've been to one that does. they are a pretty good choice because of the bread they use (multi-grain instead of white rolls).

may i suggest also if you want a chocolate snack in the day, maybe choose chocolate covered nuts? peanuts or nuts on their own would be a better choice, but doing both at once is a better choice that plain candy.

also, try to eat your veggies first when you start your meal...if you had that as part of the Boston Market maybe you would not have had enough room to finish the carb loaded foods.

Good work and good choices! Don't beat yourself up if you mess up a day or miss a day on the treadmill, just make sure you do your work the following day!

Thanks for the encouragement :) I know all the things I'm supposed to do, but it's hard to do them most of time for me! And ironically, I did eat the mac and cheese and cornbread last. But I have an almost impossible time leaving food on my plate, and a hard time knowing when I am really full. I ate them last becasue they are my favorite, of course, but maybe changing my reason for eating them last would help me leave them behind. I will try this next time!

They do have those deli sandwiches at my Arby's, but I looked up the nutrition on them, and was shocked at the amount of calories and fat in them. Their turkey and swiss sandwich, even without mayo, has 600 calories and 18g of fat. I think I'm better off avoiding Arby's altogether.

wow, that's insane about the arby's sandwich!! but, nutritionally it could be a better choice, i dunno...sometimes calories aren't the end-all-be-all. but yeah, avoiding the place entirely is a better bet.
good luck with all of this...i try to be encouraging and give advice when people embark on a new lifestyle of healthy eating and exercise. It's not easy, but it is certainly worth the sacrifice of avoiding junk food to keep diabetes and other diseases at bay!

I appreciate it. I know I have a loooong journay ahead of me, and I am going to need encouragement and advice. And I've really been inspired reading about your training, by the way.
