At Asma's question her fingers rise and play briefly across the ever shifting letters that flow across her breast bone. She wasn't sure she was terribly pleased by them, but they hadn't scrubbed off during her first bath and she'd just come to accept them. When she replies to Asma, her voice is soft and light.]

I have wondered the same more than once, I can assure you. I am .. less inclined to believe in coincidence than many others might be. I believe if addressed, one of those that have been here longer, the staff perhaps, could give you more precise answers in regards to it.

From what my own understanding is, it is given to us by Lord Deior as a marker. I do not know for why or what, but that every new arrival is marked in such a way.

If it's meant to be a marker, I would assume it's so they can keep track of all of us.

Ah! Asma. That is partly my impression also.
I do not think we will know for sure, unless the Lord of the Keep decides to grace us with more of an explanation. Truthfully, even if it is benign in origin, I would be hesitant to believe the purpose due to the circumstances in which it was received.

Still, even if it seems like these are only for branding, I suppose we can't be too careful.
Of course, if one of us drops dead due to the tattoo, then we'll know it isn't safe. [Is she joking? Yes, but it's quite hard to tell. Her voice is the same as ever.]
