I have issues with circulation in my legs. I would have gone belistick and killed someone only being stopped by my legs being asleep. ugh, that seiza makes me feel all claustraphobic. eeeeeeeew. but good for you for having the mental strength for doing it. ouch!
Looks a lot like my "simple sitting pose" in Yoga! I also used to do it years ago when I was doing a daily DO-IN routine. I find it envigorating and comfortable but then again I don't do it for 45 minutes straight, so who knows. I should give it a go...
We didn't do it for fun or any sort of mental exercise. Seiza is the formal way of sitting on the mats, and the Shinto Priest did a forty five minute ritual in which we were to stay still and keep our heads bowed.
