"In books lies the soul of the whole past time." -- Thomas Carlyle
I wonder if I could start the movement of a meme. I’ve always been a lot like Rory Gilmore, ignoring the world around me whilst I read in comfort beneath a summer tree. Books bring many riches to the lives of those they touch. They give us more than sometimes we might realize.
"It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it." -- Oscar Wilde
Why do we read books? Perhaps it is that Mark Twain was right in noting, "The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them."
We read and become experts at the important, the strange, the unthinkable, the most amazing ideas this world has to offer. We are better souls for it; wiser, and perhaps more adept at viewing life.
"We find little in books but what we put there. But in great books, the mind finds room to put many things." -- Joseph Joubert
My dear
abc79de, this quote gave me a laugh as it reminded me of you: "I've decided life is too fragile to finish a book I dislike just because it cost $16.95 and everyone else loved it. Or eat a fried egg with a broken yolk (which I hate) when the dog would leap over the St. Louis Arch for it." -- Erma Bombeck
In books we grow.
"A good book on your shelf is a friend that turns its back on you and remains a friend." -- Author Unknown
Who’s looking for more friends? Who’s looking for more books to become like friends? Let this be a meme, and please PIMP! We’ll share our love of literature together.
