The Google exercise card

One of the random things recent Android versions do is the Google exercise card, which at the start of the month displays the phone's guess at how many hours you spent walking and cycling last month.  I understand that it's not exactly a high-accuracy measurement.  They are a little vague, I guess based an an occasional sampling of the jostling as ( Read more... )

My wife has a samsung smartwatch. It told her how much she weighed, based on I dunno what, and she was all "that can't be right" and it turns out it was. It does a surprisingly good job of tracking walking, as well, measured against a pedometer and a gps.

I had to laugh at my results from the exercise card - it claimed 4 hours in May & 5 in June. Um, I've been walking 45-55 minutes at least 3 times a week (tracking in MapMyWalk), not counting the daily activity between Moai group days. Google's attempt is (so far) less than useful :-)

I use a Gamin Etrex to measure my walks. It's pretty accurate on distance, but this morning its altitude measurement kept doing down as I climbed the substantial hill to my home.
