I've had really, REALLY good Italian food. If you're ever in Poughkeepsie, NY go to the Milanese. It's amazing. Ditto Mama Leone's in Manhattan if Mama's still in business.
That being said, I think Olive Garden is all right.
For me it's a matter of expectation. I expect the food to be americanized and trendy. I expect loads of pasta. I expect loads of red sauce. I expect goofy names for their dishes. But the thing is, I'll probably spend $30 there. I don't expect it to be stellar. I expect it to be palatable and nicely presented. So far I haven't been disappointed. In comparison, You'll spend a minimum of $60 at the Milanese and about $100 at Mama's. You get what you pay for. For a relaxing lunch or dinner out, Olive Garden is fine. I'll even plug their Zuppa Tuscana. It's really quite good and it's unlimited. It's one of the main reasons I go there.
i guess it isn't really that bad...i'm just very spoiled when it comes to italian food. for some reason they were just getting on my nerves this evening. *shrug*
i really havent eaten there since high school, now that i think of it.. but my roomate gets all excited, like "yay" olive garden, so i was just wondering. it may be because her and her bf are not italian, and have never had "real" italian food.
It's some weird thing with her. I too, have experienced her Olive Garden glee. It is such an odd sight that I was once sucked into it.. All excited I pranced around just like she was until it finally came to me... "wait a minute.. we're going to Olive Garden... " And as for the "BF" he gets excited to eat anything that doesn't bite back.. :) j/k.... or am I???
One of my coworkers, the same one who wears Christmas sweatshirts with cute cuddly kittens on them from Wal*Mart, lurrrrves the Olive Garden, especially the soup/salad/breadsticks lunch. She was just waxing rhapsodic about it today, AAMOF. *horf*
I agree with the other posters who said that it's not the food itself that's bad, it's the trying to pass it off as authentic that's revolting.
i enjoy the olive garden very much I go to the olive garden in Middletown NY and they treat me like an italian mafioso or something cause I allways get the best table and stuff.. its so cool
