Boxes, Boxes, Everywhere Boxes!

Our front room is almost completely covered in boxes. I scored big time at work the other day when a 20 box shipment of paper came in. So we went from zero to more-boxes-than-we-can-cope-with very quickly. I almost couldn't get to the cookbooks the other day to pack them up. Also, there's no way that Zhenia could ride her bike to work right now ( Read more... )

Ohhh...I totally forgot that your move was coming up so soon! Good luck with the packing. I can totally relate to the early stages of packing, and feeling overwhelmed. Do not despair! It will all get taken care of. Good for you both for getting rid of things you don't want before packing them up and hauling them across town. And if you end up moving SOME unwanted things, it won't be the end of the world. :) There's always time.

I think my main problem is that our current place has reached a really high level of constant clutter and general mess. It's driving Zhenia (and, more recently, me) crazy. I desperately do not want the new place to ever get to this level of disorganization, so I'm placing a really high premium on decluttering and organizing. I got a couple books on just that topic to help motivate me. They're helping (that's why I've got stuff done in the 2nd bedroom), but there's not enough time right now for me to do as much as I want. I'm working on accepting that. Some of it will have to happen in the new house...and that's okay.

Thanks for the encouraging words!

Yeah, I have always wanted to start a new home with a clean slate. Every time I've moved, I want to not bring ANY junk into the new home. I can totally understand that. And usually, I do an okay job and don't move as MUCH junk as I might have. I've never done it perfectly, though.

I LOVE boks about organizing and decluttering. What are you reading? Just make sure you spend at least as much time decluttering as you do READING about decluttering! :)

I've been reading my organization books during my lunch break at work, so as to avoid doing exactly that. I've read The Organizing Sourcebook and Organizing Plain and Simple. I really liked The Organizing Sourcebook; it contained a simple and straightforward process for getting and staying organized. It had a lot of concrete examples of how organization systems fail. I can see myself referring to it as I set-up the new house. Organizing Plain and Simple was a little too plain and simple. Like many of these kinds of books, I felt like I was being talked down to. Which drives me crazy. It had a lot of tips that I'm sure the author felt were very clever, but I thought were dumb. Kind of like the advice you read about wearing your husband's clothing during pregnancy.

Best of luck with the move, if'n I don't get the chance to wish you so again before it happens. Congratulations!
