Of Mice and Women

As I have admitted here before, our house is infested with creatures, the kind depending on the season. Right now, our back yard and surrounding land is pretty much a swamp (we get a LOT of rain), so all the little holes those critters live in? Yeah, those are underwater. So where do the vermin go? Inside our house, of course. Top to bottom, ( Read more... )

ugh BODIES! we had a big mouse problem in a duplex we lived in. we were surrounded by corn fields so they were everywhere. we set snap traps and i'd go into the garage and find mouse guts SPLATTERED on the floor. my roommate would use a shovel to dispose but i couldn't even do that. UGH

you are a brave assassin my dear.

Yes, that part is quite gross. Blech!

Thanks. I carved another notch in my assassin belt the same night as this post IN THE SAME SPOT, but they seem to have gotten wise to our plan now. *sigh*

We had good luck with peppermint oil sprinkled around the favorite spots. It smelled nice, was non toxic to the cats and it worked!

Did you find it at a grocery store, or did you have to go to a special shop for it?

Growing up on a farm, we had our share of mice. The worst was when one would hide and die somewhere we couldn't get to it, and then the smell of decaying mouse body would pervade for a couple of days. Diiiiisgusting. I'd still rather deal with mice than cockroaches, though. I'll pay any amount of money to live in clean apartment buildings after staying with a friend in her ghetto apartment and watching roachbabies come out of the woodwork the moment we left the tiniest piece of trash or dirty dish out.

Anyway, you're awfully brave!

Thanks. We've had our share of roaches, too, at our apartment in Dallas, and we think they followed us up when we moved, but we were finally able to rid ourselves of them. Spiders are amazing that way. And I agree; I'd MUCH rather deal with mice. I remember having a friend sleep over when I was in middle school once; we were sleeping on the fold-out sofa in the living room, and any time we turned a light on, we'd see them scatter. *shiver* So gross. And, we weren't messy, just very poor. :(

Thanks. As I've told Tom before, I love all of God's creatures, but the second they enter my house, they are DEAD.

Our animals have caught a few mice in the last few years, but poor Abby can't get any traction in the kitchen where they tend to run to hide. *sigh*

We get bumblebees in our front yard, and they always terrify me, even though Tom swears they aren't dangerous. Eek!
