Notes from a Small Festival

Or quite a large one. Oxford Beer Festival yesterday. A bit on the crowded side, not helped by the use of one half of the hall for serving, and the other half of the hall for beers-in-waiting. I guess it reduces the required number of staff, but... well anyway. Here's what I drank.

I love Rich's. You can buy it online from their website in large boxes which is pretty cool - we've done it for parties before.

At the bricks-and-mortar shop, it's bring your own container.

Yes, I used to go there from Bristol but, sadly, am too far away now :(

My notes say "Beer, with a hint of beer"

If I were working for Hook Norton's advertising agents, I'd use that as the slogan. Unpretentious "Ronseal" advertising at its best. And yes, Flagship is indeed a very "beery" beer to my taste buds :)

I eat in the café at Rich's cider farm quite often: it's a few yards down the road from the Ki Federation dojo, and handy for lunch. The Cider Farm shop is very interesting indeed: some of the local cider brandies are as good as the better grade of Calvados.

The apple juice they serve is always different: local crop, stored and pressed on site (of course) and the flavour changes through the seasons.

Oooh thank you; this will serve as a shopping list, particularly the porters. I bloody love porter. Luckily, the Tesco Finest one is actually Harviestoun Old Engine Oil in prettier bottles. I've also discovered Imperial Porter, which is just liquid magic.
