The legend of the green belt test

May 06, 2009 16:50

From the time you become a white belt at my MA school, you begin hearing about the terrifying, challenging - scare the pants off the meanest guy - test. Me? I simply opted out - ‘well I’m not taking a green belt test - ever’. I don’t like to buy into others’ drama and stories about stuff; this feels like all the older kids in my family & ( Read more... )

Oh how AMAZING! Thank you for sharing this. You are a warrior of courage, grace, and wisdom.

Much love and honor to you.

P.S. someday, when you have time, could you tell me more about adrenal fatigue?

Kai - you know you played a role in my success too. Raising the level of my training was hard - and you were such an inspiration with your walking tapes. Really. I would think "I'll just do twenty minutes". And then I would think about you striving for that mile and the next mile and I would kick it up again.

and *YOU* my friend are such an inspiration to me. I did not write it here, and I should have - thoughts of how strong and fierce you are kept me going. I thought of you and your spine full of metal taking on Krav Magra (sp?). I thought of emailing you when I thought I just couldn't do this thing - and more than anything I could conjure up your compassionate sensibility to calm me down.

and on adrenal fatigue. it is a somewhat controversial diagnosis, but essentially is caused by chronic long term stress. the idea is that our bodies are meant to run away or deal with danger and then relax and let down - but if we never let down the adrenals poop out. in my case, that was complicated by low iron, low thyroid and no vitamin d in the system. I finally "got it" when this gruff butch naturopath told me that if I kept it up, I would end up on disability for the rest of my life. I would just get to the point where I couldn't get out of bed.

yes - more on the fun of the test, what I learned and of course the celebration (which included having Seth take the day off and come support me!)

oh sure.... I probably could have done it without you, but having your support every step of the way (and knowing how hard it was for you to watch me go through it on all levels) was soooooo amazing and needed and oh so healing.

you are my rock
