I just got off the phone with him. He is in high spirits. (and maybe reeling a bit from the meds from the angioplasty) They said his veins are great. The problem is they don't know what is causing the heart pain. He thinks they may boot him out of their tonight or tomorrow morning ( Read more... )

Thing about coronary ischemia is that most of it comes from systemic arterial inflammation. Angioplasty can treat local blockages in blood flow, but if there are no local blockages there is nothing to treat. A bypass might help, but that is risky in the absence of a specific diagnosis.

The best thing to do for Rain is probably to get him back on his diabetes meds: unmanaged diabetes is a huge risk factor for artery disease. Beyond that, weight loss, exercise, a low-saturated-fat diet, and asprin if it is tolerated. The obvious, difficult things, in other words. There's more meds that might be tried, but first treat the diabetes, somehow.
