family:Older Brother (Netherlands) Little sister Heike (Luxemburg). And their parents who moved around so much. They disapproved of Ali and her rebellious ways, they never truly got along since she refused to bend to their will.

first impression: “Does this girl take anything seriously?”

TEN TRUE FACTS AND A SECRET.
1) Ali, is first and foremost, a flirt, sometimes unintentional, sometimes completely intentional, it all really depends on her mood that particular day. Most of the time she doesn’t mean anything by it, she’s not very good at serious relationships. Never has been. She doesn’t like to keep herself tied down to any one guy. Where would be the fun in that? It’s just best not pin your hopes and dreams of a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship on her. She’ll ultimately disappoint.

2) Diamonds are a girl’s best friend? Please, beer and chocolate are a girl’s best friend. They might as well re-write the song right now! If there’s any way to get to Ali’s heart, it’s through one of these two items. She loves herself a good drink more than anything, even before she was the ‘proper age’ to do so. But being from where she was, she adores Belgium chocolate, and most of the try-hard chocolates over here in the states simply cannot compare.

3) Ali has never really let her parents strict ways control her like they did her sister, it’s not that she outwardly disobeyed them (though as she got older, that became more and more often the case). She protected her sister from their harsh judgments until they finally couldn’t take it anymore and sent her to the states, hoping that would tame her. They really should’ve known better.

4) Despite how her sister looks up to her, Ali is not exactly the best example to follow. She is somewhat of a hypocrite when it comes to her baby sister, basically telling her to “Do as I say, not as I do.” She is fiercely protective of Heike, and won’t, for the life of her, let her date any of the guys (or any of the types of guys) that she did/does. Heaven forbid any guy even looks at her sister the wrong way, or they’ll get an ass kicking so hard they won’t be able to sit down for a week.

5) Speaking of the types of guys she won’t let near her sister, a certain ex-boyfriend comes to mind. Ah yes, the infamous Francis, the man of a million exes, male or female. Ali just happens to be one of the many. Their relationship started soon after she came to America, and didn’t last too long after that. About three weeks later they broke up, Francis moved onto another…whatever he fancied at the time and not one to let stuff like that keep her down, Ali did the same.

6) Despite him being good friends with her ex, Ali kept a surprisingly good relationship up with one Antonio Carriedo, which is pretty much the only reason she got a job at Dos Llamas, and it’s a miracle she’s managed to keep it. She and Antonio have a good friendship, and she knows about him not being straight, so her flirting with him is more of a sign of affection than anything else. She adores the Spanish man, but has yet to meet his lover, though she has heard about the Italian.

7) The different colored ribbons she wears are a connection to how her parents use to dress her up when she was very small. As she grew older, she found she didn’t completely dislike the look, and proceeded to wear them. Different ribbons for different occasions, but her default color for most days is red.

8) Ali use to be multi-lingual (speaking Dutch, French, German and English), and still is to some point, but so many years in the states has caused that to deteriorate somewhat. At the very beginning, she would often slip from language to language much like Heike does now, but she didn’t suffer from the embarrassment that plagues her sister. She can understand Heike when she slips up (except for Luxembourgish…she has yet to learn that one), though sometimes she had to tell the poor girl to slow down.

9) Wanting their daughter to get in touch with her roots, Ali’s parents set her up to play the saxophone when she was smaller, since it did originate in the country she was born in. While she does have some talent in music, the saxophone never stuck with her that much. She can play a few songs, but she’s stopped practicing. Her old instrument is now sitting in the back of her closet.

10) While their parents are religious, Ali isn’t. It’s not to say that she doesn’t believe in God, she does. She just doesn’t see why she has to go to a church to prove it.

Secret:
Despite all of her flirting, Ali really does want to find the right guy for her. One that will give her space when she needs it, be around when she asks, loves her but isn’t too possessive. But she really fails at relationships, and is absolutely terrified of commitment on top of that.
