A while back I posted an entry about the little things that make me smile (
http://beladona-took.livejournal.com/54477.html), and now I have
another one of sorts. A great site I stumbled across is
http://1000awesomethings.comSomeone is compiling a list of 1000 awesome, simple things that we might encounter any (or even every) day. If you have a chance to read it over, please do. If not, here are my highlights:
629 - When it feels like the lyrics to a song you're listening to were written just for you (and it frequently feels they all were)
630 - The moment after you wake up from a nightmare and suddenly realize it was just a dream (those are some of the deepest breaths I've ever taken)
633 - Finding something you lost a long time ago after you already gave up looking for it (doesn't happen as often when you move every year, but it's still great when it does)
637 - Rocking out on air instruments (this one isn't really "mine" but watching others, specifically one, do it makes me smile so big every time)
639 - Carrying all the groceries in from the car in one big trip (and when you have a 3rd story walk-up there really is a huge amount of pride and relief in doing that)
654 - Peeling that thin plastic film off new electronics (I HATE when people want to leave it on "for protection" - it's meant to be peeled!)
656 - When the plane suddenly speeds up on the runway (I love the butterflies - one of my favorite parts of flying)
658 - When you meet up with a group of friends and they stop talking to celebrate your arrival (makes me feel so special)
661 - When you drive from a rough road onto a smooth one (once you hit that initial bump it feels like you're gliding)
662 - Fixing your wedgie when no one's looking (dear lord, yeeees!)
676 - A perfect squeegee job at the gas station (I feel so accomplished when I can do that without that streak in the middle)
686 - When you open your cell phone and there are a bunch of text messages waiting (doesn't happen enough - and it's not like I leave it alone much - but when I get back from a meeting or a lesson or a movie and there they are? I feel so loved lol)
687 - Turning off all the lights during a thunderstorm (fuck yes. And open the windows too, if you can)
690 - When the person scratching your back finds that one really itchy spot (again, not so much for
me, but I love finding that spot when I scratch someone else's back)
698 - Listening to your new favorite song, over and over again (I do this with every CD I get, till I know all the words to my favorite songs)
704 - Taking the price tag off in one clean peel (this also applies to new CD packaging and bottle labels... love it)
717 - Sleeping with one leg under the covers and one leg out (just about every friggin night)
729 - Passing under a bridge on the highway when it's pouring rain (it gets so quiet, for just a moment)
733 - Laughing so hard you make no sound at all (I've done that a lot lately. It's a good feeling)
738 - When you go out for lunch and come back to a way better parking spot (especially when you see if before the other returning cars... suck it, fucker!)
761 - Eating the extra fries at the bottom of the bag (what? It's lonely if you just leave it there...)
765 - Thinking it's Thursday when it's Friday (though the other way around is the opposite of awesome lol)
771 - Waking up before your alarm clock goes off and realizing you've got lots of time left to sleep (this doesn't work if the "lots of time" is only like an hour, but if it's three or more it's incredible)
773 - Watching your odometer click over a major milestone (given my present car is a brand new one, I actually saw it go from 999 to 1000. It was pretty cool)
779 - Getting into a bed with clean sheets after shaving your legs (one of the only reasons I shave at night, actually)
805 - The smell of crayons (and markers and color pencils and ink)
828 - Remembering what movie "that guy" is from (it usually happens hours or days after I've seen the movie, but it doesn't matter, it's always so rewarding)
837 - Pushing those little buttons on the soft drink cup lid (and removing the little white tab from the top of the Starbucks lid)
838 - The smell of freshly cut grass (smells made it into a lot of my faves)
840 - Popping bubble wrap (there was no way this wasn't going to make the cut)
846 - Sneaking McDonald's and hiding the evidence (you know you've done it)
852 - The smell of the coffee aisle in the grocery store (seriously, one of the only reasons I started drinking the stuff)
853 - When your microwave pops microwave popcorn perfectly (And there are no kernels left and nothing is burnt and it's all just so perfect, like got intended)
854 - Crying (duh - even until you're breathless and no longer making noise. So cathartic)
874 - The five second rule (say what you want, Mythbusters, I'll live by it forever)
876 - Taking your bra off after wearing it for hours (when I started reading this site this was one of the first things that popped into my head. I'm glad it was on the list)
879 - The parking lot pull through (I can't back into a parking spot to save my life, so these make me very happy)
898 - Playing old-school video games (I have my SNES, N64 and Game Cube.. can't decide if my next system will be the Wii or if I'm hunting down an original NES)
900 - Multitasking while brushing your teeth (every morning I'm brushing my teeth I'm also filling up water bottles - the bed then gets made while I use the mouthwash. I am accomplished woman with good dental hygiene)
912 - Hanging your hand out the window of a car (whether I'm driving or passenger, if the window's down my hand is out)
913 - Having a whole row by yourself on the plane (the only way to fly. Overbooked flights suck)
930 - Finally getting a piece of popcorn that's been stuck in your teeth all day out (damn near orgasmic lol)
932 - Wearing sandals when you shouldn't be wearing sandals (it was made for me!)
937 - The smell of rain on a hot sidewalk (so perfect - and watching the steam makes it even better)
941 - The universal fry sharing policy (I feel this is a code we should all live by, like bumming smokes or borrowing lighters - just give as much as you take)
943 - Using Q-Tips the way you're not supposed to use them ("do not insert into ear canal" my ass)
950 - Big, fat asses (LMFAO = forget "fucking", that's now "Laughing My Fat Ass Off" hahaha)
956 - Using rock-paper-scissors to settle anything (and I do mean anything - it can even make finishing a beer a challenge)
959 - Planning for snoozes (my alarm is set 30 minutes early every day for just this reason)
977 - The smell of gasoline (mmmmmm)
982 - Picking your nose (or blowing it and getting that little fucker that's made your nose whistle all day out of there. Gross, but you know you can relate)
991 - Really, really old Tupperware (it's my childhood, burped for freshness!)
995 - Finding money you didn't even know you'd lost (bust out the winter coats)
Some things I'd add to my list:
Saving the "swirl" in the center of the margarine tub till the last spread
Creating a plate/bowl of food that looks like it should be on a menu (also called "Hero Food" and sort of touched on in #965)
People sharing new music with me, because they know I'm gonna like it
Eating all the skittles, one color at a time, in order from least to most favorite
Using good milk one day after it should have expired
The smell of new plastic (especially shower curtains)
When my friends at work save their breaks (and wait) for me so we can go outside together
Wet paper towel time during a tattoo
When my favorite sitcoms all have new episodes back to back
Being able to quote along with my favorite stand up comics
Successfully playing a simple song on my violin only to have my teacher make a mistake
Noticing I have new mail at work the split second before the chime sounds
When a book/movie/CD/event lives up to expectations
When your night or day goes better than you planned, even if not as originally planned
The viral YouTube videos friends send me at work..
Speaking of, if this doesn't make you laugh I just can't think of a way to make you have a good day:

I think that'll do for now. A real update will be out soon. If not before the holiday though, Happy Thanksgiving! (yes, I'll be cheating and eating turkey...)
