A secondhand smoking rant - read it if you want - it's your RIGHT not to

The other night I was watching TV and saw this lovely little PSA/commercial/propaganda film about the dangers of secondhand smoke. I have seen it only the one time and I can't find it anywhere online... which makes me sad, cause I'd love to share it with anyone who wants to see it. It's essentially this:

There's an old man. Then a little girl. ( Read more... )

guns, alan, penn and teller, smoking, the constitution, my right, mad, rant, mikey, secondhand smoke

i understand your reasoning for the seatbelts. yeah, i'm the ma so i'm very thankful you wear them. but i stand by the freedom of speech. freedom of speech was to give us the right to speak out, publicly without fear of reprisal. but burning a flag is an ACT, not a speech. if i were to continue down that path, then i should be allowed to burn down the house of the asshole across the street. i would just be exercising my freedom of speech that the entire town should know he's a prick. right? no, not right, putting up a sign on my own property stating he's assface should fall under freedom of speech. instead, that's labeled slander, and i'd get arrested for it. it's just the ridiculousness of what falls under "freedom of speech". and i know we'll just agree to disagree (after you use your freedom of speech, LOL) but i still think folks who burn the american flag should be shot and strung up in town squares with the word "traitor" on their foreheads. that'd be a great use of the freedom of speech thing.
(love yous)

"Speech" is defined in our Constitution as "freedom to express information, ideas, and opinions free of government restrictions based on content". It doesn't just cover "what comes out of your mouth", nor does it completely cover that.

It does not cover expressions, statements or actions that can affect someone else's livelihood (hence slander/libel/defacement/destruction of property/etc laws.... written accusations, like lawn signs for example, are libel - just saying lol).

While you obviously and very justifiably hate it, someone else burning the flag does not reflect negatively on you as a person and will not hinder the way you make a living, maintain your home, or are viewed by your community (your opinions are another story though hahaha). Those things, the things/statements/actions that allow you to make your opinion and voice heard without damaging another person, are the things protected by that amendment.

God I should'a been a lawyer.

Loooooooove you :-*
