WOAH. I think a friend of a friend did something like that (i.e. ran over road debris at 100km/hr), except it took out the whole underside of his car.
Glad you're okay- at least there wasn't anyone in lane you swerved into or something, 'cuz that could've been nasty... and I hardly say it's your fault. *is unashamedly biased* XD;; I mean, those seven other cars in the emergency lane didn't manage to avoid it either...

P.S. If it makes you feel any better, mum was treating a forty-something year old Polish migrant, who fractured his legs or something in a head-on collision. How? Because he temporarily forgot that in Australia, we drive on the other side of the road. ^^;;
