I love becoming addicted to new things. I regularly fall in love with something I come across, whether it's swords, Star Wars, vampires, Chinese, horses, or Harry Potter fanfiction. This is hardly rare - lots of people go through the same thing, some even with the same intensity as me. But what I do about it is perhaps different from many others. Instead of imbibing everything on the topic, finding out more information and experiences, I immediately try to CREATE something that is relevant to my new passion. When I started learning Chinese, I took maybe five lessons before composing a poem in Chinese. I now dream of owning a riding stable and training horses. Swords... don't get me started on that trauma. And oh dear, when I get involved with a fanfic, I immediately start writing it instead of reading any.
With fanfic, this is a problem in that, because I create before reading, I'm never able to fit in pre-existing communities. I refuse to bow to their rules and conventions and favourite pairings and the impossibility of some pairings, because dammit, I have my own way of doing things already. And so I'm never socialised into that society either.
