fic: the greater good, part one.

May 28, 2013 21:35

For those who came to Spooks late and/or don't remember, Maisie Simm was the daughter of Tom's girlfriend in series 1-2, and Wes Carter was Adam and Fiona's son in series 3-7. During series 10 I realised they would be quite grown up, and then fic happened. (It may help to know that the actress who played Maisie honest-to-goodness grew up to look Read more... )

Congratulations!

Also: ooh, look, fic! ;-)

Anyway, thanks for the thanks, and I would have cheerleaded even harder had I known quite what I was cheerleading. And I am going to read this somehow, but either when/if you put it on AO3 (LJ default is not a thing I can read anything on; I don't know why the internet hates margins now) and if not I will probably need to print it out, so I will be slow. But this is not because I don't want to read it. (As you know, but I feel bad, because I often go "yay, fic!" to people and then when it appears "oh, that is a bit long for my inadequate brain, bye, sorry". Which is no good and I have to explain again.)

But yay, fic! \o/ *awards shiny fic-writing medal*

A MEDAL!! *receives graciously*

Hush you, no need to apologise, I know this is about 21,500 words over and 2 David Collingses under your reading limit (despite my belated efforts to rectify the latter!) I'll definitely be putting it on AO3 as soon as I can be bothered to code in all the line breaks, don't know what it has against line breaks. But even if you never get to read it - I wouldn't've finished it without you!

Also, ha, your fic reaction is very similar to my prompt-fest reactions - "oh look an amazing and interesting prompt fest relevant to my interests" - *runs away to finish own fic* So we are well suited.

Oh, don't worry, I AM going to read it, of course! (And re. the AO3 - what do you mean?? I post in the html editor and while I need to code in italics etc, I never need to code in paragraph breaks, just copy and paste as is and it works fine, so perhaps you should ask someone, because that may be a bug?? It works the same as LJ's html editor like that - coding for specific bits but paragraph breaks get automatically recognised without any coding. If it's not working for you, maybe you should contact them - that must be a bug or something - and a v tedious one!)

I'm just waiting to see if I'm okay in installments on the AO3, and if not, I'll print it off, but I will, and it won't be too long. (And if that logic holds, then, does that mean, I'll suddenly see you on the comment fest pages, all belated? ;-p)

I can't go round printing everything off, but when someone who writes v good fic posts once every 2 years or so, I think that warrants printing. :-D

No it does paragraph breaks fine, it just won't let me have more than two in a row, and my section breaks are all 3 or 4 or 6 breaks... so it's not that arduous to do them by hand, I'm just lazy :) I'm going to get on it tonight, though!

Well, you already know how much I love this fic, but I will happily say again that I LOVE it! I think I mentioned this in my editing, but I was so impressed with how you took two very minor characters who were children when the show was on, and made them into engaging human beings, whose thoughts, feelings, struggles, etc, you managed to make me really care about.

Thank you for writing it and sharing it. The Spooks fandom is lucky to have you!

Awww, thank you! And for making me finish it and for saying it again :)

I accidentally came to care a lot about them too. It feels like I've finally said goodbye to 10 years of the show, you know? Funny that it took a long detour via some not-even-characters to get there.
