I danced mostly in the C2 Hall(s) this Convention. I received a handful of compliments on my dancing this weekend, and the most satisfying question I was asked was 'where do you dance C2 in Ottawa

You're dancing great! When we were dancing, I had no idea that you had never danced C2 "for real." You were definitely in the "top half" of the hall for most sessions, and definitely a fun partner. I'll some other verb dance with you any day.
This weekend I heard Vic call "Flip Your Neighbor and Spread your partner." I'm totally gonna call that.
The calls and sound effects get even funnier at C3. I learned C3a just so that I could "Swap the Top." ("Next!"). I learned C3b just so that I could "Stimulate the Column." I didn't realize that rfrench and Barry Clasper would get me to "Stimulate But," or that I'd hear Vic call a "Girls start a Trucker's Stimulate."
Geo: Flip your neighbor and Spread, Nice & Easy (C4) Barry: Exchange the boxers’ Stimulate. The sound effect is “eew!” Lee Kopman: In your diamonds, only the boys Strip (3A).
I assure you, it is absolutely possible to have rip-roaring fun at C1 and C2. Having other dancers in your square with a sense of humor helps a lot. :)
Oh, I've lived it, too. :) Actually I saw Vic calling a C4 tip in Santa Clara -- the dancers were laughing so hard they had tears coming out of their eyes. I decdided then, I wanted to do that one of these days.
You're dancing great! Your learning method reminds me of a couple from Sault Ste Marie. Many years ago, they learned C2 the same way you did, and we happened to be dancing with them when the caller called "Sets in Motion". Their comment was "so that's what it looks like with people"!!
Well, I was certainly impressed! I don't get to dance much myself, but taught myself C1 and C2 on the fly. I stopped there, because there is no C3A dancing within 400 miles of Albuquerque.
