I feel a touch evil because part of this is amusing... I'm a sucker for any unconventional mention of Schroedinger's anything, and when I realized we actually were discussing an axtual shot, and not the Idol addiction or an MAOI Inhibitor, I had to smile, realizing this works on so many levels, but I'm not going to feel guilty, because I'm pretty sure you meant to do that, and kudos to you for it... Well done!
As I came up with the concept for this conversation, I knew it would work to leave the context murky. Are we in a literal scene? Is this in someone's head with heavy metaphors involved? As I've seen in the comments, the readers tend to filter a thing like this through their own experience and perspective, and thus works on a wider spectrum than a full fiction piece with detailed descriptions.
Also, a regular short story wasn't coming to me, so I'll work on a fuller narrative in a future topic.
It's tough when you sit on the precipice of change, wondering if it is worth it. I hold to the idea that I'm always changing, involuntarily or otherwise, and that the best I can do try to have a handle on some of that.
True. While the needle was used to employ the "shot" metaphor to hew to the topic, it also works in that there is often an initial bit of pain and facing fear in making an important change. But like a vaccination, you sometimes have to grit your teeth and take it, because the future could hold less pain because of that moment.
And true, the only constant is change -- and people making the comment that "the only constant is change" =)
