My journalism background conditioned me to writing tight, less is more, etc. Also, that old advice to stay active voice as much as possible.

Maria has often leaned on her mother's courage to shore up her own, especially in the last year as caretaker. Now she is finding her own voice, shedding her skin - so to speak - in shoebox form and becoming the shining "souvenir" of her own journey. I really love the idea of her thinking of herself as her very own souvenir! Being able to cherish the memories without having to have specific "things" around to actually remind you is beautiful. 😁😁
