I'm still around

Just letting everyone know I'm still around and I didn't get stuck in Florida during the gas crisis last Sept. We had a few scares on the way home though. Several places had run out of gas and we were in a big ole camper! But we made it.  Yay!

My oldest step daughter got married in May of this year.  She is now an RN at the local hospital!  Yay Jenna!  Now she thinks she wants to get her doctorate in nursing!  I think that's awesome.  My middle step daughter is about to start year 2 of college, and working hard to be accepted into nursing school as well.  She won't be able to apply till the end of her first semester!  We are all really hoping she gets in first try!  She sure has been working and studying hard to keep up her grades for it.

My youngest is now a 10th grader at the high school which is weird and unbelieveable.  I keep wanting to put her in the 9th grade for some reason.  I can't believe she only has 3 years of high school left till she attempts to become a nurse in college too.  My family will never have to worry about being sick with so many health care workers in it.  LOL!

I haven't been up to much.  Just watching everyone grow in wonder around me.  When I married my hubby, the oldest girl turned 15, 2 days later!  Now she is 22 and married! So strange how time flies.

I've been trying to incorporate green smoothies into my daily routine.  I have managed so far since starting but one day.  Green smoothies are pretty neat little gems of nutrition.  You put lots of leafy green veggies in a blender with some liquid and then blend till smooth.  Then you add a bunch of fruit to make it sweet and cover up the taste of the greens.  I really like them.  The best one I have made yet contained mixed baby greens, cucumber, coconut water, banana, strawberries, and spirulina.  I've made others with baby greens, spinich, and orange, kiwi, strawberries and spirulina as well.  I like the sweet and smooth texture that the banana gives to the smoothie though, and it really covers up the taste of spirulina which I think is revolting, (the smell too, ugh!) but I put it in because it is so good for you.   If they need a little sweetening up I add some agave syrup and wallah nutritional powerhouse in a cup.  LOL!

I've also been trying to eat one raw garlic clove a day and drink the juice of a head of celery, 2 carrots, and an apple with a little lemon squeezed in.  The lemon really cuts the taste of the celery which is really gross in juice form.  But it is supposed to be good for the blood pressure and since mine is very high, I need all the help I can get with that!

I'm working on becoming a little healthier and I'm trying to take baby steps with it instead of jumping in head first like I usually do.  I'm forgiving myself any lapses I make, and am actually enjoying it.  I find myself planning my green smoothies in my head long before I'm going to make them, and I think that with time my cravings for bad things will drop dramatically, if not go away altogether.  But anyway. As I said. One small step at a time. Green smoothies and veggie juices and we'll see where that takes me.
