Working on a college campus can be very sobering and enraging at the same time. Today, I had a little girl (little=under 21) come in and talk about how she doesn't use condoms. When I mentioned STDs, she told me she wasn't worried, because "you know, they have a cure for AIDS and everything now." Her attitude/belief would be disturbing enough, but she is the fourth person I've had tell me that safe sex isn't really important as there are cures for all STDs now. I wonder where I was when the scientists announced this miracle...

There has been no talk of a cure except in recent times with the individual in the UK who tested positive a while ago but recent tests come back negative.

The only thing I know of in terms of in terms of an individual never having to worry about HIV are those that carry the genes of bubonic plague survivors. Something the plague does alters genes in humans so that the HIV virus cannot establish a foothold. Even if they were able to go that route, it would only work in utero so people would still have to worry.
