OK, so far, thanks to some good suggestions I have in mind:

Coast to Coast bike ride - May or June
Great East Swim - 11th June
A 10K race
The Inca Trail (ok, we were planning to do this and a sub-6000m trekking peak on honeymoon anyway...)
