I'll be on vacation Friday anyways seeing relatives for Easter :)
Regardless, this is about as solid a plan as the "don't buy gas this day" protests. Nothing will happen from it. LJ is making business decisions and this isn't a democracy where we get equal say in how they handle it. We have the right to be upset and critique their decisions, of course. But we shouldn't feel like we're obligated to have LJ listen to our every whim.
just because you think it's pointless, doesn't mean it is. a lot of people didn't even know what was going on, so the way i see it, the minimum this will do is let users know what's going on (if you actually read the info of course)
it's not about having them listen to every whim, but when interests like 'bisexuality', 'girls', 'boys' and 'depression' get filtered from the front page, it really makes me wonder how little they think of the users. you know, the users that actually make the content.
I didn't hear about the filters thing until just recently. I'm not a developer and can't say what happened there with the interests, however, that issue has been resolved and those interests are no longer filtered. That issue was resolved not as a result of user complaints I might add - it was resolved because the developers realized it had a bad result. Again, dunno what the actual code was meant to do, all the words that were filtered out (people only mentioned the controversial ones from what I've seen), or the intentions of the change, but just glad to see they caught on quickly and made the right change (so the interests no longer are filtered).
About the pointless thing... I don't mean alerting others to the changes LJ is making is pointless. I just mean that one-day-protests like this will ultimately be ineffective in having LJ change their policy. Nothing personal.

LJ can do what LJ wants because they have the money, it's theirs. LJ is its own corporate monster and unless you wanna switch to another blog... *shrug*
I fail to see how their changes will effect me -- another aspect of this most fail to take into consideration. If it doesn't effect a person, the less likely they are to care or get involved.
yea, i get the thing about personal considerations. i care because i've been a member of LJ so long, and have seen how the community has changed. i'm also involved in some of the areas that they constantly censor or manage badly, including management of eating disorders. for me, it's not just one thing, it's everything, but i do realise not everyone cares.
Apparently, there is one area where their changes will effect me -- cat macros and icons. It stems from whiny 12 year olds complaining about not getting credit for their icons. A while back (several years ago actually) I had issues with LJ ToS cos some chick reported me for stealing her icon. It was a picture of Rikku from FF10 -- anyway, I'd saved the icon and changed it to contain my user name instead of the other girl's. Needless to say, I won, but those fuckers in icon_theft had it out for me
