Thank you. There's such an interesting dynamic between Alex and Neal that falls somewhere between love and friendship and business partnership. It was fun to take this (purely speculative) excursion into their past.

I've always been very interested in their relationship and think that Alex is truly the best match for Neal - I think she gets him and understands what he can and cannot give. She seems as ... not empty or damaged but maybe ... self-protective? as Neal is so they both get each other and never ask or at least never expect more than the other can give.

I agree that Alex probably "gets" Neal more than any of his other women. I think they could be good together in that respect. But for that same reason I doubt that either of them would ever completely let their guard down and open up to the other. I'm also afraid that neither of them could ground the other and they would simply be drifting along. That conman/conwoman combo may be ill-fated from the getgo :(

But I'm hoping that we haven't seen the last of Alex/Neal's story. If only to give me a break from the annoyance that is Sara.

Yeah, I don't think they are the type to grow old together but more the hook up for an exciting couple of weeks every 6 months or so in Italy or France just for fun, before returning to the norms of their seperate lives. Someone that keeps you young and brings a bit of old excitement and that thrill. I don't think either one of them want to be Old Conpeople LOL but can't stop the need for that hit of thrill.

Interesting fill on the gap in the canon. I can't see Neal/Alex long-term. They know too much of each other's failings. They're birds of a feather!

Not long term, no. But I like this mutually understanding, mutually opportunistic relationship they have. They care for each other but at the same time they use each other. I think that's more sizzling than Neal's attempts at LTRs.
