Oh no! I hope your sister can find someone to fix it, or at least restore your files.

Open Office is a well respected Open Source alternative to MS Office. I've used it a little; it doesn't look at good, but it has all the essentials.

ETA: also, Microsoft has free downloads of viewers, so you can look at, but not edit Word and Powerpoint files, etc. There is also a 90 day free trial of Office 2007 which you could download to use as a stop gap.

My sister found someone to fix it, but he hasn't had time yet. So I won't be able to transfer my music and bookmarks from my pc to my laptop.

Thank you very much for the advice with Open Office, I already downloaded it and it seems to work exactly like microsoft office.

Well, fortunately I saved everything important on several cds, but my bookmarks are lost, as I couldn't transfer them from my pc to my laptop.

I know this is no good to you now, but for the future, I heartily recommend Avast anti virus. It's free and it updates every time you're online, and it's absolutely genius at stopping viruses in their tracks.

I really hope you didn't lose anything too vital :).

thank you for the recommendation, didn't know there were effective anti virus software for free, I'll tell it my sister.

Only lost my bookmarks, the rest is quite save, as I burned them on cd, but it still sucks, a few days before my departure, everything bad happens.
