Dreamwidth and changing tides

As soon as I wrote, that I bet about half of your eyes glazed over.

But it's going to be short! I do have a DW account and I'm trying to think about how I might want to change my journaling experiences. So. A poll!

I am currently reading both but would like to be reading exclusively on dw. i have heard that there is going to be a way to fold your flist into your dw reading list which i will do if/when it becomes available.

in the meantime i'm trying to decide whether i want to create feeds of everything/everyone i want to read or just keep two tabs open.

I hear you. I'm particularly not sure because I just created two journals at DW - one for general politcal and fannish stuff, things that aren't super-personal and then a different one that I think might end up being a lot of the stuff I don't write about right now. Dunno.

Oh, online life, why are you so DIFFICULT?

Exactly. I'm kind of afraid if I spend a ton of time figuring out how to make feeds and actually do that, within like, a week they'll have something up that takes five seconds, yanno?

Some creep named rian_aphasia added you over at DW; it was me.

What's your DW? I'm rian_aphasia over there; can't remember if I've got you added or not. ::issotired::

Wordpress is good, but it doesn't have the community-supporting aspects - the "reading list" is clunky and I don't like their comments setup.

DreamWidth is a LJ-type site, in that they used a lot of the open source code, but it came specifically from a group of LJ users who were dissatisfied with how LJ is working - the ads, privacy stuff, the banning of users who write fanfiction, etc. They founded DW as a collective that addresses those lacks in systems at LJ and improved some features.

I like it. I imported both of my journals into one account there and I'm finding the bugreporting and stuff really user-friendly. It's still in beta, so there are problems, but they seem really committed to working those problems out.

I'm sort of standing here one foot out the fandom door, so to speak. I'm not reading as much LJ as I used to and I'm posting even less. And honestly, I'm not missing it that much. So unless Pinn finds me something new to get hooked on, I can see the gap growing wider over time.

The only driving reason to read my flist lately has been to keep up with people I know. NOW. If only I'd get better at commenting on the entries I read. ARUGh.

I find it hilarious that we have the same opinions regarding DW, namely that we wish people would stop talking about it and we're not willing to comment there. Can we be old and crochety in the nursing home together?

Why, yes. And I believe I may be able to make a few good recommendations in that area.

I do have a DW invite and I'll eventually get around to namestaking but I don't plan on reading/writing over there. I'm just so busy these days that I only have time and energy for one journaling service and I'm going to chose the one that most of my friends still use.
