There's a full-page ad on page A-5 of the New York Times that I think everyone should see. I tried to find it online but didn't have any luck
( Read more... )
It's not from PETA but it's about the government's guidelines and classifications of how they can slaughter certain animals for food. Apparently it's perfectly acceptable to slaughter a rabbit by piercing it's foot with a meat hook, dragging it alive upside down and then decapitating it while it screams in pain entirely conscious of its surroundings. It's also acceptable to put a live bird in scalding hot water. It's a really fucked up ad and asks the public to contact this guy at the department of agriculture to get him to change the guidelines.
Apparently even USDA inspectors are coming forward stating it's a really fucked up slaughter process.
The ad was taken out by The Humane Farming Association, Animal Rights International and the Animal Welfare Institute. These aren't crazy blood throwing PETA members--these are three reputable organizations just asking that no farm animals be slaughtered while still fully conscious and to adopt regulations to include rabbits as well as chickens un the Humane Slaughter Act.
Exactly. I wanted to cry after reading it. I'm not even giving you the gory details from it. Seriously, pick up a hardcopy of the paper. I think I'm going to photocopy it and start sending it to people I know so everyone can write or call this dude in D.C.
