Summary: Zachariah gets rehired by Heaven. The genetic anomaly know as Fugly!Winchester is resurrected as an alternate Vessel for Mikey. Sam finds his faith, Dean and Cas lose theirs . . . and spend some time pressed thisclose together up against a wall in an alley as Cas gives a more violent rendition of the "I did it all for you," soliloquy. Fugly turns out to be bait to get Dean back into the Green Room to say, "Yes." Oooops. Dean kills Zach, escapes with Sam while poor Fugly - presumably - gets left behind to be the new Vessel. Sam and Dean Vow to Save Humanity!(tm) and the world all on their very own. THE END.
First: Let's just assume that this entire Dean/Cas ridden episode was an apology for the last 5 minutes of the last episode. Okay, Writers, I'll call off the hit men. Swear. Alrighty, let's list all of the AWESOME Dean/Cas moments:
(1) "You'd better watch it, Cas, the last time someone stared at me like that . . . I ended up getting laid."
(1a) Staring continues.
(1b) Dean turns and winks at Cas.
(1c) REACTION:
(2) "Blow me, Cas!"
(2a) Confused look . . . Poor Cas probably isn't used to hearing that demand in such a tone from Dean.
(2b) REACTION:
(3) "I rebelled! . . . wall slam. . . I fell . . . . proceed to press Dean into the brick wall via groin. . . and I did it all for you . . . press faces closer together. . . and you . . . one last groin thrust for the road. . . do this . . . smush noses together in case one lone fangirl hasn't had a heart attack yet."
(3a) REACTION:
Second: Okay, Zachariah . . . is kinda awesome. I'm gonna miss the lil'bugger, though his epic death was epic. I loved his wing outline when he died.
Third: Oh Dean and Sam, first you're soul mates and then erotically co-dependent. Life is gooood. Though Sammy wins for having the most faith this episode. Dean and Cas, on the other hand, have reached the point that all couples reach in which they have to do everything together . . . including lose ones faith in God, family, humanity, and self.
Fourth: Soooooooooo. Let's all take a minute to remember the Prophecy, okay. The Righteous Man who spilled blood in Hell is the only one who can stop the Apocalypse. Now, everyone has assumed that stopping the End O'Times means being Michael's very own trench coat but nowhere in the above statement was being a Vessel mentioned as a prerequisite of saving the world. This is an interesting little delineation to make. Why? 'Cause I think we're getting closer to God's actual plan: for humanity to save itself via it's own ingenuity.
Fifth: And speaking of ingenuity, the award for that goes to Dean aka The Righteous Man, aka The Vessel, aka The True Servant of Heaven, aka Cas' Bitch. No, really - the way that he got out of Bobby's not!Safe Room was amazing. Not to mention the Escape from L.A. the Green Room was pretty cool, since he was totally winging it. You know who else was amazing this episode: BAMF!Cas.
Sixth: This episode was chock full of parallels! Lets list:
(1) Cas putting a Winchester in the not!Safe Room when the last time he was breaking one out.
(2) Dean being trapped in the not!safe room to stop him from making a decision vs. Sam being trapped in there to deal with the after effects of his bad decision(s).
(3) Sam's faith in Dean, which turns out to be justified vs. Dean's earlier faith in Sam throughout earlier seasons which was . . . well, I'll leave everyone to their own opinion on that one.
(4) Cas' "IDIAFY" speach in the hospital vs. the "IDIAFY" speech in the alley.
Seventh: Okay, I'm not going to lie: I really, really wanted to see Mikey!Dean, and I feel massively fucking a wee bit gypped since it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I'm not thrilled by this at all, because I feel as if so much of the drama of the last few seasons surrounded the whole idea of Dean making this final sacrifice and then having to deal with said repercussions . . . instead we have Fugly and no one really cares if he dies. In return for this total perversion of the plot we get a Season 6.
I'd love to hear, one day, how Show was supposed to end if it didn't get a new season. That said, I'll take the new season if we keep getting the massive doses of Dean/Cas that we received in this episode - for the rest, there's always fanfic :D
Eighth: And, yes, Mike and Luci are now evenly matching in cheap off the rack suits. I wonder how that's going to work out for 'em. Though, in their weakened state they're sure going to be a bit easier to kill. On a totally random tangent - I'd love to know how Gabe got his Vessel. What's the story there?
Finally: So, this was the 100th episode and is rumored to have been directed by Jensen Ackles! The outtakes to this are going to be amazing, though. Imagine directing and acting in the "Alley Way/PR0N Scene" -- "Okay, Misha now shove me up against this wall and . . . "
P.S. Anyone else notice that Dean was able to look at an angel's Grace and he still has his eyes . . . just sayin'
