Another Idea

Gutterman pulled me aside after Themes in Political Theory to tell me that I should be a politics major because I think like one-a really good one, apparently. As a result, I am seriously considering abandoning the idea of graduating early in order to double major in history and politics. Dear God, I love that professor. He is so ridiculously ( Read more... )

Do you WANT to do politics? Just because you think like a politics major doesn't mean you have to be one. I think like an actress, a singer, a dancer, an artist, a scientist, a lot of things. Guess what I'm majoring in: Art. However, if you want to be a politics major, then go right ahead. But if you want to only go into History, that's fine too. What I'm saying is that you shouldn't let others opinions weigh so much in your decisions. Go after what YOU want, not what others think you should do. If I had listened to my sister (who was my authority figure) I would be in school for International Business. It is fine to take into consideration what others have to say, just take all of it in instead of only one person. Have fun making your decision.

Well, yeah, it helps that I was probably going to minor in politics anyway. I just hadn't ever considered the possibility of double majoring or possibly choosing politics over history, so it was really nice to hear that someone I admire and respect thinks I'm capable.

If you have time to do it and you feel you can handle the load, then push yourself and do it. Being a politcs major will be really helpful going into law school with all the other politics majors. Plus your thesis for both could be easily blended into one so you only have to do one thesis instead of two. Paying for one degree and getting two is a really good deal if you can pull it off. As always, you can change your mind later. It doesn't hurt declaring a major or two... dropping a major doesn't cost anything and you can decide that even in your last semester if you really wanted to. If you can fit it in, do it. :-D
