I went to my dermatologist last week and she said my skin is starting to look a lot better so we decided not to start me on Accutane. I'm relieved but also not totally convinced that my skin is improving yet. I'm still breaking out every single day, although my breakouts do seem to be pretty mild and they clear really fast. I'll take it, I guess. I ( Read more... )

That is so sweet of you to help that girl out. I was totally OK with my abortion (other than anxiety about the procedure itself) and took a fucking army to the clinic. I can't imagine not having the person to pick me up. My friend had one a few years ago, and the girl she took with her was kind of flaky and hard to track down... My mom was so upset and is my new go-to if any of my friends ever are in that situation again (you have to drive 5 hours south from here to get an elective abortion). & you might get a new friend out of it :) kudos

Aw thanks for giving me props, this situation has turned into kind of a shitshow though haha. This girl ended up living out in the middle of nowhere so it took me 45 minutes to get to her place and almost an hour to get from there to the clinic, but I was like whatevs, it's cool. Then we get to the clinic and IT'S FUCKING CLOSED TODAY AND NOBODY BOTHERED TO TELL HER. Like, not only did someone schedule her on a day the clinic is closed but she called to confirm her appointment yesterday so you'd think they would have realized it at that point. So I just had to take her back home and she's going to try to reschedule for this week, but I don't even know if I'm gonna be available because I have so much going on. And she needs to get this abortion as soon as humanly possible because she's pretty far along. I hope I'm still able to take her but it's gonna be tough, especially since it involves SO much driving ( ... )

I am so glad you didn't go on Accutane. Seriously, try anything you can to avoid it. It completely fucked me/my skin up for years afterward. I know it sucks, but just try to wait out your hormone craziness... That seems to be what ended up working for me. Last year was HORRIBLE for my skin especially around my jaw line, but I think my hormones have finally balanced themselves enough to where my skin has been clear for 6 months now. I mean, other than a random pimple on a very rare occasion, and my scars that are STILL healing.
Damn skin. As if life isn't stressful enough, then your body has to go against you!

First: ASHLYN, HI I MISS YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACE!!!

I'm glad I didn't go on Accutane too. I mean, I'm open to the idea of maybe eventually trying it as an absolute last resort if I'm still struggling with this bullshit into my 30's, but I'm definitely gonna avoid it for as long as I can. The medication I'm on right now (spirinolactone) seems to be finally starting to work which is great, but it comes with its own side effects and health risks. Sigh. It really does suck having to worry about my skin on top of everything else, especially as a grown ass 29-year-old woman. I'm glad your skin has stopped tormenting you though!
