Always with the questions...

But you guys are so smart!  And you know so much more than me! :)

Anyway, this time, my question is if there is such a thing as a short sleeved Regency spencer?  Like for summer or home wear?  I know you can do little sleeveless vests or bodices, but what about something with short-ish puffed sleeves?  My internet searches have failed me so far, ( Read more... )

I saw a short-sleeved spencer in the Pride & Prejudice BBC movie, but that's assuming they did their research. Good question though, I was wondering the same. My Survey of Historical Costumes book from college says that spencers could be short-sleeved, I just don't see any pictures.

I thought I had seen a short sleeved one in some movie, but couldn't remember which and couldn't find pictures! Do you remember who wore it in P&P? I guess I'm just going to have to re-watch this, eh? Oh darn. ;) Thanks for the help! I think I might just go for it...

It was Jane, I think I remember her wearing it during one of the scenes where Lizzy was coming hope, so it was either at the beginning or after Lydia ruined her vacation ;)

I found a few short sleeved jacket-y things in my fashion plates:

This one actually looks like a spencer:

These are all very early and, strangely, all from the same publication, but there you go!

Thanks Taylor! I like that last one. :) I've seen a couple tunic things in other plates, and a lot of the short jacket things I've found so far (yes I have found some and I'll share pics soon) are even earlier than these, from around 1794-6.

ONE OF YOUR REGENCY OUTFITS ON YOUR BLOG lizzybel January 13 2015, 01:34:43 UTC
I would like to find out if I could use a picture of your Regency outfit (back view of white dress with green jacket and hat) from your Bella Miss Ella blog. I want to use it with another photo as the cover for my upcoming JAFF novel. I would need to have the original JPEG sent to me and may wish to alter the color to compliment the background of the other photo. If you would be okay with this could you please contact me directly at lsct07@gmail.com.

I hope to hear from you very soon as the book will hopefully be out by the end of the first quarter.

Sincerely,

Linda
