I'm seriously considering LASIK. I've been wearing corrective lenses of one sort or the other since 4th grade, and it's a beautiful idea that I might be able to not have to deal with washing cat fuzz off my contacts or accidentally falling asleep in them and waking up with my eyes dry and gooey. And just one less set of things to pack (contacts- ( Read more... )

You have to factor in genetics a bit. There are those of us who have bad eye sight from childhood, and those who get it when they are older. My parents didn't start wearing glasses until their mid-40's. Now both of them do. Somehow, 3 of 5 kids got the fuzzy vision in childhood? Anyway, I think there's a greater chance than not that my eyes will take a turn in my mid 40's as well. I'll be 27 here soon. So if I got Lasik today, I'd have 15 or so years before my eyes would probably go south again? Would I have to get zapped again? Because I think they can fix the problem I have now, but does it prevent stuff in the future? The long term "lasting" of Lasik is still to be determined ( ... )

Yeah, it's likely that getting lasik today will only "last" 15-20 years or so. To me, that's not a bad investment. Also, the way most older people's eyes degenerate, we're more likely to become farsighted in our old age than return to being nearsighted (so you'd most likely only need reading glasses.) Also, I think that with some lasik plans you can get some sort of lifetime warranty where you can get "enhancements" down the road for free or a reduced price ( ... )

I do think it would be cool to be able to wake up and see things clearly... like the alarm clock. :)

I'll get Lazik when they've improved it enough so I can get X-Ray vision.

If you get x-ray vision, everyone will think you're a pervert or a cheater or both.

Just a thought.
